Thor the Dark World continues on after the film Thor where Thor and his friends from Asgard save the nine realms as there is a new threat. This time the place on Earth that Thor and his friends have to protect is now England. The Film moves focus from strategy and tactics of king too look at relationships, good ones, bad ones and how ones are nurtured and destroyed. Thor played by Chris Hemsworth is still boastful and rash like the first film but this time it is his friendships that suffer like Natalie Portman's Jane foster. This is true because Thor goes to England from Asgard to find out if Jane is alright thinking she was in danger and she slaps him for leaving her for two years. Thor was correct as when he catches up to Jane she has just woken up from some weird dream like trance of seeing Malekith the enemy in Thor : The Dark World. He whisks her off to Asgard after the police got thrown back after trying to arrest Jane for trespassing on private property. Their on Asgard he and his father's doctors realise that Jane has been infected by the Aether. This is when he has his battle with his father Odin who wants her kept in the palace and have Malekith come to him which in Sun Tzu's book is the smarter move. However Odin does not look from where Thor is coming from a mistake he has not learned from the last film. This is true because he edges Thor his son to find another mate during banquet earlier during the film after he won a war in another realm. This is why when Thor comes back to earth he has to reconnect with Jane and this is shown with him talking with Jane and holing her hand to create a connection and he also rejects the throne from his father Odin. Thor's earlier unconcern with relationships does not stop with his love interest but also his friends like Sif he regularly ignores. As Sif tries to talk to Thor at the banquet at Asgard. Thor does actually call on their help to protect the nine realms where he does have to reconnect with them to get them to agree to break Loki out of jail so he can tell them his way of getting from Asgard to Earth. Jane Foster also is bad at keeping relationships when we first see her she is on a date as is having problems picking something to eat. Jane has hidden herself from her date using the menu obviously still thinking about Thor her last boyfriend. This scene only shows how poor she is at making a fresh start another reason that shows Jane bad at keeping relationships is that Jane has ignored her intern Darcy Lewis countless times which is shown in how Darcy interrupts her terrible date, she also during the process gets mistaken as a waitress at the restaurant. So Darcy pulls up a chair and sits down to tell her that there is actually some weird readings she was getting from the reader she brought with and wants Jane to come with her to check it out. Jane is of course dismissive of Darcy and tells her to go after checking the reader again in the same way that Darcy has. When Jane finally comes with her to check it out she realises that Darcy her intern has gotten herself an intern obviously to compensate for Jane ignoring her and not talking to her. Other scenes that show Jane to be in Thor's shoes is her lack of care with one her fathers friends Erik Selvig only calling and meeting up to him when it suits her and when it suits is when it has anything to do with her job as an astrophysicist. So when Erik strips nude in front of tourist in Stone Henge trying to warn the public about something dangerous Jane, Darcy and her intern Ian have to retrieve from the psychiatric ward. Now even though we saw Erik's arrest on the news Jane never looks closely at TV and only wonders about Erik when he had not called her to talk about some findings he wanted her to look at. Thor is not the only person in the film who ignores his love interest. Odin did not watch over Frigga his wife thus whilst she protected Thor's girlfriend Jane Foster from Malekith she died. Thor coming in just as she was stab and saw her dying breath. The film does have other things going from it. The main plot is for Thor and his friends to stop the Dark Elves which Malekith is the leader from getting the hands on the Aether and using it to send the nine realms into darkness. To do this Malekith has to activated Aether doing the convergence which is where all the nine realms align. Malekith does this because it will plunge the entire nine realms in to darkness which his kind thrive on. Also one of effects of the convergence is that it can teleport things up and down even to other realms. Jane Foster, Darcy and her intern Ian found this out at an abandon place where they met some kids who showed them the effect. This is also where Jane gets infected by the Aether. So during Thor's fight between Malekith they get teleported to different places and Thor kills Malekith by teleporting different parts of his body different places by placing him near the convergence. However teleporting things is not the only effect the convergence has. The convergence makes some things around it weigh less. So when Ian the intern Darcy hired to help her with Jane workload defends Darcy against a dark elves he picks up a car and batters him with it. Overall Thor: The Dark World has a mixture of laughs and thrills for the viewer but at about 2 hours the film's laughs and thrills do dimmer but they are spread across the film. One thing I will end is the the plot tricks are what got me through the film so like other reviewers have said stick along to the end credits as they are worth it. |
