Kung fu Panda 3 is about the development of chi. Chi is the life force flows in everything. Kung fu Panda 3 is an animated comedy film. The story is about a once defeated opponent called Kai (JK Simmons). Kai was banished to the spirit world because he was trying to take everyone's chi. Kai comes back to mortal world and starts beating all masters in China and stealing all the chi turning them into jade amulets which he can use as an army. This threat reaches Shifu (Dustin Hoffman) just as he tells Po (Jack Black) that he has to become a teacher. Around the same time Po's long lost father Li (Bryan Cranston) comes and tells Po of a secret Panda village. So throughout the film Po has to learn about himself to master chi to safe the whole of china. Kung fu Panda 3 is has a lot a character development. I like it when Po has to kill himself to send Kai back to the spiritual world because Kai was already dead. This showed growth. The pandas who he got friendly with and taught kung fu to had to dig deep to find their chi and give it to him before he turn in a jade amulet. This was because he was being defeated in the spiritual realm by Kai. Also Po was not the only one who had learned during the film. Po's foster parent Mr Ping ( James Hong) learned as well. This is because of first he was sceptical of Li and thought Po needed only one parent, himself. So when Po went off with his father to the secret panda village Mr ping went with him hiding in his son's luggage. However during the course of staying with pandas in the village. He learned that Po having Li in his life did not mean less for him but more for Po. One of hardest things Po had to learn during the film was how to teach. In fact his first lesson was very funny. His first lesson was trying to teach the furious 5 but that went wrong. The Furious 5 is Mantis(Seth Rogen), Crane(David Cross), Viper(Lucy Liu),Monkey(Jackie Chang) and Tigress(Angelina Jolie) He had set an obstacle course and he was directing how to move across it. He was doing this by saying moves they should do while crossing the obstacle course. This of course was not going to work and they get injured. It was very funny seeing how they individually got injured. This unfortunately for while made Po think he could not teach. So that stopped his development for a while. This did not last or Po would have been defeated by Kai and Kai would have collected all of China's chi. When the village got attacked Po realised that he was not to turn them into something else but to teach them more about their selves. So when Kai finally came he had the pandas fighting Kai's jade army so he could sneak up and give Kai a weird but funny move. That involved using his fore finger and thumb to hold Kai's fore finger with Po's pinky finger sticking out. This of course did not work as I mentioned the scene earlier. The voice acting and animation is very good. Jack Black is good at voicing Po and adds a comedic touch to character. For example when Po is in the spiritual realm and has received the chi from the village. The chi is personified as a dragon as Po is the dragon warrior. Po starts playing around saying how cool it looked and started flying around. James Hong is also good as the voice of Mr Ping. I liked the scenes when he was trying to serve Po his lunch and it kept being eaten by the pandas. This especially worked when he was in the house and pandas started running all over the house to eat the noodles and dumpling. Angelina Jolie as Tigress was very good. I like the way she handled the baby panda while fighting jade army moving her away from the danger, it was quite funny. Kate Hudson was suprising as Mei Mei. The female panda who is quite flirty with Po. I like how her skills with the banners meant that she could handle nunchucks. The story was quite good and blended well with the animation. The story had a lot of roots in Chinese history and I think Oriental Dreamworks did well in the telling the story. For example when Kai first came and was trying to get recognition for his evil deeds he mentioned himself being a warlord of china. This relates to Chinese history because there were warlords in china before Genghis Khan united the whole of china. Overall Kung Fu Panda 3 was a fun and enjoyable film and I would recommend to everyone. The film is not just for kids, adults can enjoy it too. |
