Spectre

Mocking Jay part 2 was a delightful ending to the Hunger Games series. Throughout Mocking Jay part 2 Katniss Everdeen (played by Jennifer Lawrence) has one thing on her mind. That is to kill President Snow. This is because in the last Hunger Game film Peeta Mellark (played by Josh Hutcherson) who she rescued was brainwashed by Snow and tried to kill her. The beginning of the film you see her waking up from her injuries from that attack. Her voice is raspy as she tried to speak her name and her district on the order of her doctors. Katniss thought getting a mission to kill President Snow would be easy. She thought if she went up to Alma Coin (Played by Julian Moore) the rebel leader and her adviser Plutarch Havensbee (played by the Late Philip Seymour Hoffman) and asked to be sent to capital to President Snow she would get it. They said no and tell her they want her to be doing a propaganda war to make most of President Snow's troops and people surrender to the rebels. As we know from the earlier films Katniss is not one to talk and tries to sneak out. However Katniss is very recognisable so after she sneaks on transport and munitions ship she goes out of the ship and people start recognising her and hold up her hands to give her a rebel salute.

Alama is angry about this as she wants to control Katniss. Later in the film we learn that she feels threatened by Katniss and wouldn't mind her dying and using her as a martyr. We also learn that she was not only one treated like this. All the other victors of the games are treated like propaganda machines. They all get put in the same unit to go to capital and make videos to get the citizens and the troops to surrender. This strikes similarly close to UN program that uses film stars to be Ambassadors to their programs promoting peace, building schools and wells. The unit Katniss is in was doing a dangerous mission. As Snow had wanted to make a spectacle of their unit. So he hid bombs all over the capital as well as hidden cameras. So in one scene when they were chased by some molten liquid and they manage to survive by going to a higher floor in a building they broke into. Snow replayed the events for all the capital to see. As there were screens around the capital and near the building Katniss and her unit manage to see the video.

Another issue that currently is being discussed throughout the entire film was the issue of strategy. How should they win the war as well as issues as should they limit collateral damage. Katniss was always on the side of limiting collateral damage. Her Boyfriend Gale Hawthorne (played by Liam Hemsworth) doesn't seem to care. At the planning of the attack Gale was thinking after striking the mountains they should close all exits. This mean a lot of the citizens of district 2 would get killed. Katniss fought against that strategy and Gale countered that Snow would not care if given same decision. In the end Katnis' sides wins and they leave a rail link unscathed so the citizens could leave but not without sending in Katniss to plead the case for surrendering. She gets shot there and also held hostage. The held hostage was done first and is a great scene. The hostage asks her to give him one reason to spare her life. She said she could not give him one but if he wanted revenge he should take his anger and turn it to Snow. I think what saved her life was that she did not care about her own life. Another scene that discusses the issue of strategy and limiting collateral damage was the bombing scene. This changed Katniss' view and trust of two people her boyfriend Gale Hawthorne and Alma Coin. The bombing was done near President Snow's Palace after he had allowed residents safe haven. Katniss had got her team to help her on her mission to kill President Snow. They had found a friend who use to do make up for the hunger games. She had allowed them to use her clothes to blend into the crowd. Just near the gates where they had handed out the children first to the guards at the gate. You see iin the air little balloons with packages attached to them. Soon you hear explosions and Katniss is knocked unconscious. The audience learn that President Snow's men turn on him when they heard and saw what happened with the bombing. However President Snow was the person who ordered the bombing which also killed Katniss' sister. It was Alma Coin using the confusion to her advantage. This is why when Katniss Everdeen is giving the chance to execute the President Snow she shoots Alma coin instead killing her outright. She breaks up with Gale because he knew of the attack planned by rebel President Alma Coin. The film ends after showing the audience Katniss having a family with Peeta which I thought was quite sweet.

The acting I thought was quite good. One of the best scenes is Johanna Mason (played by Jenna Malone) was up in Katniss face in the hospital after she got shot in the chest in district 2. It allowed the audience to know what some of the other people thought of Katniss. Johanna saw her as a pampered girl who gets what she wants when she wants. Peeta Mellark played an important role in the film. As he was brainwashed to kill Katniss we only saw him in the hospital. However Alma Coin planted him with Katniss in their unit. This proved to be quite testing for the unit. As there were times when Peeta would lose control. For example when they running from molten liquid. Peeta attacks one of their unit and threw them into the mud. This also made the situation murky as the audience would not be sure whether we could trust Peeta. It also makes us question rebel president Alma Coin's decisions. Julian Moore is excellent as Alma Coin because she plays her as power hungry politician. This portrayal makes the film a lot more complex. Throughout the film your are thinking giving her treatment to Katniss and the other victors of previous Hunger games whether she is the right person to lead after President Snow is deposed.

The locations and environment also help Hunger Games Mocking Jay Part 2 to be a fitting conclusion to the saga. From showing the hospital room with bland minimalistic doors and atmosphere. To seeing President Snow's full colour room and powerful ambience. These contrast help impose ideas to linger throughout the film.

As I have said before Hunger Games Mocking Jay part 2 is a fitting conclusion to the saga however only thing against it is the length. It is 2 hours 16 minutes long.
